Matthew Bucala, MPH
Senior Statistician

Matthew Bucala is a Senior Statistician with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health services research. He has worked across academic medical centers, collaborative quality initiatives, and public health projects, where he leads analytic design, statistical modeling, and large-scale data integration to improve patient care and inform policy. Matthew has contributed to multiple statewide collaboratives and national research studies, producing high-impact manuscripts, technical reports, and conference presentations.

 

With a background spanning clinical research, occupational health, and infectious disease prevention, Matthew brings a unique skill set that bridges quantitative rigor with practical implementation. He is highly experienced in reproducible data science using SAS, R, and SQL, and in building scalable analytic pipelines that strengthen data quality and accessibility. His research has advanced understanding of PrEP retention, hospital infection prevention, and occupational health among firefighters, among other areas.

 

Matthew holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology/Biostatistics with a Certificate in Healthcare Infection Prevention & Epidemiology from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
